Last year, I did some research into how mobile traffic grew in 2012. A year later, I wanted to follow up and see how the mobile landscape has changed in 2013.
In 2013, mobile usage (including mobile and tablet devices) increased more than 10% across all of the sites that we monitor to top out at above 25% in December 2013. Think about that: one in every four visitors uses a mobile browser. And that's an average across all of our sites. On some of the sites we monitor, more than half of the visits came from mobile.
I concluded last year that mobile usage is increasing, and it's time to start thinking about your mobile customers. Now, with one in four visitors coming on a mobile or tablet device, and mobile usage on an upward trajectory, if you aren't thinking about mobile, you're leaving money on the table.
Note: to stay consistent with last year, "mobile" refers to Google Analytics' definition of both mobile and tablet. Stats include over 40 million visits on over 250 different Google Analytics profiles that Click Rain has access to. Differences between this year's graph and last year's graph are due to changes in the Analytics profiles to which we have access.
