For those of you looking for iPad-esque options for your kids (or if you just want your iPad back), it might be time to check out the LeapPad2 by Leap Frog.
We got one for our kids this past Christmas, and it has been a great kid-friendly alternative to the more expensive and breakable iPad. Retailing for around $99.00, the price point is right, and it has all the amenities kids enjoy on tablets (educational apps, camera w/ photo editing, music, video, etc.).
My 3 and 5 year olds were both able to figure out how to use the LeapPad2 with little direction. They found they could use their fingers or the attached stylus to navigate. The forward- and rear-facing cameras (both video and still) have been a favorite, so the 4GB of space has definitely been needed.
Here are a few suggestions if you’re in the market:
1. Purchase app credits on Amazon; you get $20 for $15.
2. Buy the recharger so you don’t have to mess around with batteries.
3. The gel skin case is well worth the $5 investment.
There are a million tablet options out there, but I’d say this is a great kid-focused choice. With two kids I have yet to get my iPad back, but the LeapPad2 was a step in the right direction.
