Braindrop: [Virtual] Reality Check

Emerging Technology to Pay Attention To

Let's talk about reality and where emerging technologies like VR, AR, and AI are taking us. Stay tuned, I'll share three creative ideas to get you started.

Virtual Reality Brings New Experiences to Consumers

Let's start with virtual reality or VR. VR is an artificial environment, which is experienced through sensory stimuli, sights, and sounds. VR is trending right now. Consumer adoption is expected to grow really when handsets become more cost-effective, sleeker, lighter, and ultimately more fashionable.

From showcasing what it's like to dive in Belize or how it feels to stand on Main Street during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, this technology allows marketers to engage customers in completely unique ways. Then there's augmented reality or AR.

Augmented Reality Edits Your View of the World

This is the term that isn't quite as popular, but you've probably already experienced it. AR superimposes a computer-generated image on the user's view of the real world.

It isn't quite as disruptive. It doesn't require new hardware and it flows easily between reality and technology. After all this immersion comes progression, which leads to artificial intelligence or AI, which to some viewers might simply mean the robots are coming but no, it's not really all that serious.

AI Brings Human Intelligence to Computers

AI is the ability for computers to perform tasks that usually require human intelligence. We see it in tools such as Siri, Google Home, Amazon Echo and even in modern medicine, online booking tools, and much, much more.

Get Started with VR

Take a look around your organization for interesting locations VR Is about showcasing behind the curtain. Could you create 360 videos that show what it's like to stand on the 50-yard line of your university homecoming game? How about what it's like to be backstage at your local venue during a big show?

How can you incorporate AR technology as it stands today to get the most out of your print pieces? Could you overlay a video element and use either a Snapchat Filter or other service to drive an action? If you have any form of a call center or an online ordering service, consider building a chatbot to minimize the amount of time that your people spend on your top ten requests. Instead, use Facebook Messenger or AI to handle these needs.

We are in the early stages of each of these emerging technologies, but I encourage you to start exploring them today. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more marketing technology tips.
